Coleman Universal Tarp Review

June 8, 2017

A tarp provides shelter from the elements and can be a useful add on if you have a small tent. This Coleman Tarp is designed to fit its Darwin / Tasmin tents but can be adapted to fit most small tents. Supplied with just one pole, the back edge rests on the front of your tent and creates an extended porch area.

As our new family tent is quite small (Coleman Kobuk Valley 4 Plus), I wanted to create a dry and shady space for our children to play, plus space to store equipment. We also tried pitching the tarp on its own which worked fine on a still day in Dorset, as shown in the picture below. Our daughter quickly clambered in for a little lie down.

Pros: The small, lightweight pack tucks easily into our car boot. Its pretty easy to set up, I did it on my own but would be handy to have friend to help get the pole balanced more quickly. The fabric feels strong and its provides effective cover from the elements. There are several eyelets with guy ropes attached and plenty of pegs supplied. A great way of adding extra living space without needing a larger tent.

Cons: An extra pole in the bag would have provided more flexibility of use.
